Temperature gage off scale hot (with alarm)
Car: Dodge, Sport, 1995, 2.0 - Back to Fix-It - Dodge Repair Manuals
Q.Is this something for a DIY repair? Is the temperature sensor a possibility? The problem is intermittent.
I already checked/done: nothing
Answer It all depends. If it is a temperature gauge - easy fix. Just buy one in a local store or online and replace it.
I'd assume the engine overheats for one reason or another. If you're not sure why - see your mechanic.
Reasons for overheating could be many:
- ignition timing
- wrong timing after replacing a timing belt/chain
- ECU went bad and putting too much gas through injectors (bad mixture)
- radiator is failing
- thermostat is bad
- automatic transmission is failing and transmission radiator contributing too much heat to the main radiator
- cooling system needs cleaning
If your engine is overheating - you need to pin-point the problem first before it gets out of hands. Temperature sensor is there to let you know there is a problem.
I hope it helps!
