Answer Ignition Wires
Removal
CAUTION: Do not pull on the ignition wire directly, the wire may separate from the connector inside the boot.
Disconnect ignition wire from spark plug (12405) by grasping the boot and twisting slightly in both directions to free it.
Disconnect the ignition wire from the ignition coil (12029) by squeezing the locking tabs and twisting while pulling upward.
Remove ignition wire separators (12297) from valve cover retaining studs, open ignition wire separators and remove ignition wire.
Installation
CAUTION: Proper installation of ignition wires is critical to vehicle operation. If any ignition wire is not properly installed on spark plug or ignition coil both spark plugs connected to that ignition coil may not operate under load.
Whenever an ignition wire is removed for any reason from a spark plug or ignition coil or a new ignition wire is installed, coat the entire interior surface of the boots with Silicone Brake Caliper Grease and Dielectric Compound D7AZ-19A331-A (Motorcraft WA-10) or equivalent meeting Ford specification ESE-M1C171-A using a small clean tool prior to installation.
Install each ignition wire to the proper terminal on the ignition coils. The terminals on the ignition coils are numbered. Make sure the boots are fully seated on the terminals and that both ignition wire locking tabs are engaged.
Route ignition wire through ignition wire separator and close ignition wire separators. Install ignition wire separators onto valve cover retaining studs.
NOTE: Ignition wire spark plug boot must be positioned 90 degrees from crankshaft centerline (outboard and forward) to make sure the boot seal is fully seated.
Connect ignition wire to spark plug.

Spark Plugs
Removal and Installation
Disconnect ignition wires from spark plugs (12405) as described.
Loosen spark plugs 1/4 turn and remove any dirt or foreign material from spark plug areas of cylinder heads (6049) with compressed air.
NOTE: Four different styles of platinum-enhanced spark plugs are produced for the 4.6L (2V) gasoline engine. Each spark plug has a different part number and use. AWSF-32P spark plugs have a platinum-enhanced center electrode and are used in cylinders 5, 6, 7 and 8. AWSF-32PG spark plugs have a platinum-enhanced ground (side) electrode, and are used in cylinders 1, 2, 3 and 4. If any spark plug is removed and re-installed, it MUST be installed in the same cylinder from which it was removed. If any spark plug is replaced, use only spark plugs with part number AWSF-32PP (as listed on the vehicle emission control information label). This replacement spark plug has double platinum enhancement on both the center and ground electrode and may be used in all eight cylinders. The Crown Victoria natural gas engine uses AWSF-22FM in all eight cylinders.
Remove spark plugs.
Check and adjust spark plug gap as described.
To install, reverse Removal procedure. Tighten spark plugs to 9-20 Nm (80-177 lb-in).
