Q.hi! 2002 volvo s40 check engine light on.
po036 code heather bank 2 sensor relay can you tell me where is the sensor relay located for this codo or haw to fix this code i instolled 2 02 sensor and still get the check engen light. can you help me fix this. mike.

I already checked/done: install 2 new 02 sensor and the code po036 came up heather bank 2 sensor relay can you tell me how to fix this problem.and where is this relay located.to see if is folty.

Answer Condition:
Diagnostic trouble code (DTC) ECM-18 or p0036 or ECM-1C is stored if the heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) pre-heating circuit is short-circuited to ground or voltage, if there is an open-circuit in the circuit or if the resistance in the element is incorrect.
Substitute Value
Fuel trim disabled.
Possible Source
Signal Too High:
Short-circuit to supply voltage in the signal cable
Faulty heated oxygen sensor (HO2S).
Signal Too Low:
Short-circuit to ground in the signal cable
Faulty heated oxygen sensor (HO2S).
Signal Missing:
Open-circuit in the signal cable
Faulty heated oxygen sensor (HO2S)
Contact resistance and oxidation.
Faulty signal:
Faulty heated oxygen sensor (HO2S)
Contact resistance in the terminals.
Fault Symptom[s]
None.
Check the rear heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) connector. Check for contact resistance and oxidation according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent faults.
Check the cable between control module terminal #65 and rear heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) connector terminal #2. Check for a short-circuit to ground according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent faults.
Check the cable between fuse 18 in the integrated relay/fusebox in the engine compartment and rear heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) terminal #1. Check for an open-circuit according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent faults.
Try a new rear heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) if no fault is found during the above fault-tracing.
Remedy as necessary.
Other Information
To connect the breakout box and access the control module, see Connecting the breakout box. EMS 2000
To access or replace the rear heated oxygen sensor (HO2S), see Replacing lambda sond rear
For information about signals see Signal specification.
HINT: After carrying out the repair, check that the fault has been remedied.
Reinstall the components, reconnect the connectors etc.
Connect VCT2000
Start the engine and allow to idle for approximately 2 minutes.
Check whether diagnostic trouble code (DTC) ECM-18 or ECM-1C has changed status to intermittent.

Addition i changed the o2 sensor reset the code after 2 min. The ligth comes back on. Code po036 heather sensor relay bank one. Can you tell me what to do to fix it.

More Info required DO you have battery voltage down at the o2 sensor with the key on?

Addition still no luck do you have the wiring diagram to locate the heather sensor relay so ican check for the wire.

Answer I do not believe the the o2 sensor has a relay, but I could be wrong. I am looking at the wiring diagram right now. But if the o2 sensor has power to it, why do we need to check the relay?

Addition why is the check engine light keeps on coming back whit code po036 o2 sensor relay fult can you see where is the problem.?

Answer Here is the wiring diagram for your rear o2 sensor. Component 7/47 is the rear o2 sensor. There is no relay in the circuit

Addition hi! I just disconected the rear o2sensor and check whit the volt meter on the 2 white wire and there was no woltage do you think that the o2 sensor is bad, please let me know.

Addition no the key was off. But the other sensor show 11 volts.

Answer Well the key will need to be on to check for battery voltage that will power up the heater in the o2 sensor.

Answer You could just disconnect the o2 sensor and turn the key on and see if you have voltage on one of the wires on the harness that would plug into the o2 sensor.

Addition i just put the volt meter on the white wire that is heather wire the lower o2 sensor hase 4,9 oms the top 12.9 oms is that right. I was looking at the kicute diagram that you send me and it read for a toyota tocoma not volvo s40 can you send me the the inspection procedure for 2002 volvos40.

Answer THere is several procedures depending on if this is a hard code or not.. if the signal is intermittent or not.
