Multi cylinder failure and a funky smell from the tailpipe.
Car: Acura, TL, 2000, 3.2 - Back to Fix-It - Acura TL Repair Manuals
Q.check engine light is on says multi cylinder failure and a funky smell from the tailpipe.
I already checked/done: changed plugs
Answer Usually this is caused by a bad coil. Try unplugging the coils one at a time and see if one causes the engine to slow down less than the other's. Then move that coil to another position and retry. These will say multiple miss fire even if only one is actually missing. Start here and let me know what happens then we can go from there to narrow it down.
Addition when i hooked it i had multiple error codes on for each of the four cylanders. One bad coil can cause the the four error codes. Can it be the cam shaft sensor? Would i get a seperate error code if it was that?
Answer Do this, clear the codes and start with the first one that shows. Yes one coil can show as other cylinder's if the car runs a while on this engine. The cam sensors dont go out very often on these.
