I already checked/done: serviced transmission (filter and fluid) Original fluid not burned and no metal present in pan. Transmission additive added.

More Info required Hey there! Are you getting this problem when you shift from park to drive or is it more like when you are sitting at a red light?

Addition when I starting out. Appears to shift properly from park to drive.

Answer OK. There are no known major problems with this transmission. I can suggest having the line pressure tested and have the transmission control module scanned for codes.
It sounds like you may have a solenoid sticking when it is cold and not allowing enough pressure through for the car to take right off. A sticking solinoid may store a code to help pinpoint the actual problem. Some of them have problems with a internal seal allowing the fluid to bypass, I don't believe this is the problem with yours as they normally have a very long shift delay between park and the drive gear. Sorry I don't have better info for you. Hope this helps though.

Addition in your opinion this would not be the torque converter. My fear was that it might let go an d I would be faced with a major issue.

Answer I do not think it is a torque converter problem. Normally when the converter has a problem it will lock up and the engine will stall. I am more inclined to think it is a shift solinoid that has gotten some varnish on it so it is sticky.

Addition thanks very much.

Addition A quick follow up question - I spoke to a locan transmissi and he said that it sounded like the clutch pack was shop and that the car would probably stop running as soon as the fluid got hot -
What is the probability of this happening as the original fluid was perfect with not hind of over heating. I suspect that the transmissi routeenly rebuilds rather than trouble shoots. I can understand it from his point of view as he has to warrentee it. But at over $1800 it causes me to pause.
I certainly like your diagnosis better.

Answer I would say if you did not see any clutch material in the trans pan or any brown in the fluid it is not very likely. I know people hate to go to the dealer but they would probably at least diagnose it for you.
