replaced the transmission with another transmission it will shift into 1 and 2 but not 3 and 4
Car: Subaru, Outback, 1997, 2.5L - Back to Fix-It - Subaru Repair Manuals
Q.1997 Subaru Outback 2.5L, replaced the transmission with another transmission it will shift into 1 and 2 but not 3 and 4 it is an automatic transmission what could be the problem?
I already checked/done: replaced the transmission it would not go at all, newer one only goes into first and second but will not go into the other gears.
More Info required Your original transmission and the new transmission are doing the same thing?
Addition the original transmission would go into gear then right back out, in all gears, it would not go anywhere, the newer transmission goes in first and second but will not get into thrid and fourth gear.
Answer Is it a known good replacement? Is it for the same year car?
Answer Since the problems are not similar to each other, probably not the Transmission Control Module.
I'd scan the car to see if there are any codes that pertain to the Transmission. You might have an issue where one of the connectors does not have a good connection.. make sure that your wiring and connectors all have a good connection. You might be able to find a transmission shop that will give you a free estimate and tell you what the problem is without charging you. Sometimes thats the cheapest/ easiest route to take.
I would talk to the person/ company you bought the transmission from and let them know of the problem you are having. Sometimes they will pay to have a trans shop fix the problem if its not too much. Always make sure that used transmissions have been tested and that they are guaranteed.
Typically, the lower the miles the better.
