I got a yellow check engine light while driving on the highway.

Car: Subaru, Outback, 2001, 4 cyl     -    Back to Fix-It    -    Subaru Repair Manuals

Q.hello, I have a Subaru Outback, 2001, 4 cyl, 95,400 miles. I got a yellow check engine light while driving on the highway. I read a few blogs about check engine lights in Outbacks, etc. and then went to Autozone to have the code read. The following is what I got from the print out: Troubleshooting PO130 OEM Brand: Domestic Definition Heted oxygen sensor - bank 1 sensor (HO2s11) circuit condition I realize I have to get an oxygen sensor, the front one (not the back one) and have that replaced. Is that it? And will the light go away then. I had read that once the code is read, the light would go off. But it did not. How can I make this repair as economically as possible? Richard.

I already checked/done: 1. not much
2. left trunk open last week, ran out of juice had the car started by AAA. Don't know if this exacerbated the problem.
3. Driving on the highway there was a fluctuation in acceleration and the check engine light came on I had the code read in Autozone, the following was printed in the tag:
Troubleshooting PO130 OEM Brand: Domestic Definition Heated oxygen sensor - bank 1 sensor 1 (H02S11)
4. how can I take care of this economically
5. is it dangerous driving the car in this condition until I get if fixed?

Addition How much do you think the direct fit replacement will cost and what do you think I would be looking at to replace this part? (Funds are tight.) Also is it dangerous to drive my car in this situation while I gather the $$$$ for the repair? I'll get it done as soon as I can, promise.

Answer You will be safe driving the car. It will probably run a bit rough on you, but it will be safe to drive. This one is $71.00 at autozone and labor should only be like one hour to replace. So take the shops per hour labor rate and multiply by 1.0
